Patty Griffin represents an extraordinary new chapter for this incomparable singer-songwriter and immediately stands among the most deeply personal recordings of her remarkable two-decade career. The album -- which follows 2015's GRAMMY Award-nominated Servant Of Love -- collects songs written during and in the aftermath of a profound personal crisis, several years in which she battled -- and ultimately defeated -- cancer just as a similar and equally insidious disease metastasized into the American body politic. Yet as always, like very few others, Griffin's power lies in how, as Holly Gleason in the Martha's Vineyard Gazette observed, ''her songs seem to freeze life and truth in amber.'' It's in how Griffin can express the strikingly intimate while never making it about herself, all wrapped in sparse arrangements that breathe an incomparable force and import into her songcraft.

Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1 & 2, a pair of releases, separate but related, they share a title, themes and artwork. ‘Part 1’ will be released on March 8th, with ‘Part 2’ following in the Autumn. Profoundly tethered but possessing their own personalities, the two forthcoming albums capture the most compelling, ambitious and cohesive creations that Foals have ever produced. “They’re two halves of the same locket,” frontman Yannis Philippakis explains. “They can be listened to and appreciated individually, but fundamentally, they are companion pieces.” There are exploratory, progressive-tinged tracks which occasionally break the 10-minute mark alongside atmospheric segues which make the music an experience rather than a mere collection of songs. Yet the band’s renowned ability to wield relentless grooves with striking power also reaches new heights.
In October of 2018, ten years after the launch of their hit HBO series, musical comedians Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement returned to HBO for the all-new comedy special. Live in London was taped before a live audience at the Eventim Apollo and featured the Conchords performing songs from the sold-out UK and Ireland edition of “Flight of the Conchords Sing Flight of the Conchords Tour.” The duo also performed the song on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in the fall of 2018. New Zealanders McKenzie and Clement debuted on HBO in 2005 in an edition of the comedy series “One-Night Stand,” returning to the network in 2007 for the debut season of their acclaimed, Emmy-nominated series “Flight of the Conchords,” which followed fictionalized versions of their lives in New York City. The duo also signed a worldwide deal with Sub Pop Records for their recorded music, going on to release the Grammy-winning EP, The Distant Future in 2007, followed by two full-length albums - their self-titled debut in 2008, and I Told You I Was Freaky in 2009. The Conchords have also enjoyed individual success. Clement’s film credits include the “Rio” movies, “Men in Black 3,” “What We Do in the Shadows” and “The BFG,” and he's also been seen in his role in FX’s “Legion.” McKenzie was the music supervisor for “The Muppets,” which won him an Academy Award® for Best Original Song for “Man or Muppet,” and “Muppets Most Wanted.”

Formed in Espoo, Finland in 1993, CHILDREN OF BODOM had an extraordinary start to their career. Their ‘90s take off was impressive, almost all of their albums have earned platinum or gold status in Finland and over the past twenty five years they‘ve become regulars on some of the world‘s biggest stages. 2019 beckons in a new era for a revitalized and bloodthirsty Hate Crew, who will present their 10th studio album “Hexed” on March 8th. It’s been three years since the release of “I Worship Chaos”. History tells us that having an extensive time frame to work on a project can often result in procrastination and loss of focus – but with “Hexed” the reverse has manifest in this 11 track, impressively stripped back melo-death, rock-n-roll-rampage. “Hexed” is a high-energy, up-tempo record seething with new life but also all of the Children of Bodom trademarks that millions of fans around the world have grown to appreciate. Their mix of melo-death meets blackened thrash with a neo-classical twist, and piercing keyboards peppered with the band’s venomous vocal bile, is what makes a Bodom spread so engaging. And it also explains why the Hate Crew continues to wow crowds across the globe, their reputation continues to grow as a fearsome live act with incredible technical proficiency.
David Gray announces details for the release of his new album, Gold In A Brass Age. This marks his 11th studio album which is set for release on March 8, 2019. In their early years, Atlanta trio The Coathangers were very much of the classic punk ethos-the band was a live entity, and the records were a document of the charisma and chaos projected from stage. But after 12 years of relentlessly touring on a steady flow of EPs and LPs, The Coathangers finally took a moment to recalibrate before diving into the creation of their sixth studio album The Devil You Know. The band regrouped to make an album that captures all the vitality of their early years while honing their individual strengths into new communal achievements. It's a record that takes their established takes on vitriolic punk, playful house-party anthems, and heartworn ballads and melds them into a new sound that retains all their former live show glories while revealing a new level of songwriting and nuance. "The writing process was done with an open heart," says guitarist/vocalist Julia Kugel. "Everything that came before had to go away. And we started there, at ground zero." With each album, you could hear the individual songwriters honing their style. But with The Devil You Know, it feels like we're hearing the first Coathangers record written as a true unit.
Luluc released their debut album, Dear Hamlyn, in 2008; the songs were written following the death of Randell's father. Dear Hamlyn eventually gained a large group of influential admirers. Peter Blackstock co-founder of No Depression Magazine, wrote of the album, "The most beautiful album I've heard in ten years." In 2011, Nick Drake's producer, Joe Boyd, also taken by Dear Hamlyn, invited Luluc to feature in his Nick Drake tribute tour. They contributed the tracks "Things Behind the Sun" and "Fly" to the live tribute album, Way to Blue: The Songs of Nick Drake in 2013. This edition of the album is the first time it Dear Hamlyn has been available on vinyl.
Originally released in 1994 following a 14 year-long break up, Hell Freezes Over celebrates its 25th anniversary with a remastered reissue. Long out of print on vinyl and never before released in the US on this format. The album has been remastered by Bob Ludwig and pressed on 2 x 180G LP’s. It contains four studio tracks and eleven tracks recorded live in April 1994 for MTV. Two Top 40 singles, "Get Over It" and "Love Will Keep Us Alive", were released from the record.
First new studio album in over five years. The new recording distills the sweeping stylistic range of KDTU’s concert performances into its own authentic sound. Masterfully incorporating elements of vintage rock, old school soul and classic funk, the inimitable saxophonist/flutist/vocalist Karl Denson and his long-standing six piece unit that includes guitarist DJ Williams, drummer Zak Najor, bassist Chris Stillwell, keyboardist David Veith, trumpeter Chris Littlefield and slide/lap steel guitarist Seth Freeman, have delivered what is undoubtedly their strongest work yet.
The Wild Reeds have made a name for themselves in part through their tightly interwoven vocal harmonies and their impressive blend. But take a look at their songwriting and their performances, and you’ll see that they’re each very unique as individuals. After a particularly challenging year, they emerged with Cheers, a record that gave each songwriter unlimited freedom to reflect, explore, and create on their own, which simultaneously solidified the group dynamic into something stronger than ever before.
Leo Bud Welch, the deceased delta bluesman, spent his life honing his musical craft. The Mississippi native and 30-year lumberjack performed as a gospel singer in his small hometown for years before he made his first record when he was in his seventies. The influence of the region he called home, his years of musicianship, and his welllived life blended together to create music that is as unique as he is. The album was produced by Dan Auerbach at his Easy Eye Sound studios in Nashville just before Leo’s death December 2017. On this album, we salute Leo Bud Welch of Sabougla, Mississippi and his gospel-soul-blues singing soul. We do hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it. It was an honor to work alongside Bud during the recording sessions – to have an opportunity to learn directly from the source is an experience that becomes rarer with each passing year. Bud shared with us the songs that he’s been signing his entire life, some that are older than the Delta itself. We sure do wish he was here today so we could personally hand him a copy of this record, but at the same time we’re pretty sure he’s happy right where he is – surely after a long life spent praising His holy name, Bud now has it made-in-the-shade in the sweet hereafter. I bet he’s got a mansion all to himself up there. Thank you, Bud. -Yours Dreamily, Dan Auerbach
The fourth album from Nick Waterhouse. He's calling it 'Nick Waterhouse.' And whether intentional or not, it is perhaps his most reflective and reflexive album, employing all of the mature production techniques learned throughout his professional career while retaining a viscous edge that allows it to land with colossal impact - more raw, heavy and overtly confrontational than anything he's made before.
Malevolent Creation are an institution in the Death Metal scene since more than 30 years. The brutality highlighted by supersonic drumming and a bestial vocal roar - that is MC. This LP/CD is the ultimate collection of the best Malevolent Creation songs from the first years. It is an incredible example as to why Malevolent Creation does it best!
Liily are five Los Angeles teenagers hailing from deep in the San Fernando Valley to the edges of the Inland Empire. Emerging from a new and burgeoning culture of youths in the city, their wildly frenetic shows point to a new vision for alternative and hard rock music in 2018.
Liily’s local shows reflect that crazed manic intensity. Their fans have turned up to dance and absolutely tear the place apart alongside the band. Having started out playing mostly house parties and warehouses, it’s only recently that the band has started entering into nightclubs to bring that same energy.
“We like our music to make people crazy,” says guitar player Sam De La Torre. “It has a lot of energy. We want to make people move. When we write something, we want it to hit really hard. If we knock people out, we’ve done our job.”
Helado Negro returns with This Is How You Smile, an album that freely flickers between clarity and obscurity, past and present geographies, bright and unhurried seasons. Miami-born, New York-based artist Roberto Carlos Lange embraces a personal and universal exploration of aura - seen, felt, emitted - on his sixth album and second for RVNG Intl. This Is How You Smile derives from Jamaica Kincaid's "Girl," a story she wrote in the form of a mother's sole, complicated, but loving voice, speaking a "How to" litany of advice ranging from domestic chores to what a daughter, an immigrant and young woman of color, must do to protect herself in a world that was not designed by or for her. This is how joy, or it's visage, at turns comforts, constricts, or becomes armor.
