Wolf Parade - Dan Boeckner, Spencer Krug, and Arlen Thompson - will release Thin Mind, the group’s fifth album for Sub Pop, on January 24th, 2020. The 10-track record was recorded by John Goodmanson at Risque Disque on Vancouver Island, BC, mixed by Goodmanson at Bogroll Studios in Seattle, WA, and mastered by Noah Mintz at Lacquer Channel Mastering in Toronto, ON. Thin Mind has sci-fi, post-apocalyptic and dystopian narratives interwoven throughout. These themes emerged while working at Risque Disque, which Boeckner jokingly describes as a Dutchman’s failed utopia, a problematic structure with a post-apocalyptic vibe: the studio is housed in a stone barn hand-built by the Dutchman in the middle of the woods, using local materials and based on his memory of a building he loved growing up in the Netherlands. Thin Mind finds the core members of Wolf Parade working as a trio, as they did on past albums Apologies to the Queen Mary and At Mount Zoomer, with songwriting duties evenly split between singers Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug. The album includes the singles “Forest Green,” “Julia, Take Your Man Home,” and “Against the Day,” the latter of which features a rare, co-vocal performance from Boeckner and Krug.

Aurora features reimagined versions of the band’s biggest and most popular songs with special guests including Lacey Sturm (ex-Flyleaf), Scooter Ward(Cold) and Spencer Chamberlain (Underoath), to name a few. Speaking about Aurora, BREAKING BENJAMIN’s founder/frontman, Ben Burnley, had this personal message to share,”This album is a celebration of our incredible fans; for those who have been there since hearing ‘So Cold’ for the first time in 2004, and the new ones who have joined us on this amazing journey along the way. We’ve always shared a unique emotional connection to our music with our fans, and this album attributes to those dark times and euphoric ones. From wherever you joined along the road to Aurora, this one is for you. Thank you.”
ANDY SHAUF is becoming one of the most important songwriters of his generation. His songs are tuneful vignettes of small moments and big hearts. On his latest, The Neon Skyline, Shauf intertwines stories of a group of friends who frequent a local dive bar, and through them, makes poignant observations about human nature with a novelist’s detail and melancholic humor. The songwriting is down to earth, yet sophisticated and inventively melodic. The Neon Skyline is a creative leap for this already acclaimed artist.
It's country music but not as we know it which begs the question: Have these Bad Kids of 21st Century rock 'n' roll finally grown up on their ninth studio album? Are they at peace with themselves? Have they made a record their parents could listen to? The Black Lips new album 'Sing In A World That's Falling Apart' continues to flick the middle finger to one and all. This ain't another gaggle of bearded southern sons fleeing their collective suburban upbringings and collegiate music education. There aren't the usual clichés about drinking, honkytonks, and heartbreak. These are, after all, the same Black Lips who rescued the waning garage punk subgenre by not sounding or dressing their musical predecessors. They also dug contemporary hip-hop and punk and actualized themselves Like so many dramatic moments in the Black Lips career, 'Sing In A World That's Falling Apart' was born out of crisis. The band's stylistic evolution through decades of prolific touring and recording took them where no garage punk band had gone before - huge venues, network television shows, and major music festivals. Here Black Lips are at their grimiest, most dangerous and equipped with the best collection of songs since the aughts. Skidding onto the asphalt in a shower of sparks, they roll on with an unapologetic southern-fried twang, pacing the beast, every now and then dropping a psycho howl into the rubber room madness lurking underneath the truckstop fireworks. This ain't your granny's country album. And conversely this ain't your mama's Black Lips.

Recorded over the course of a series of freewheeling, improvisatory sessions, Kingdom In My Mind is The Wood Brothers seventh studio release and their most spontaneous and experimental collection yet. A testament to the limitless creativity of the unharnessed mind, the record explores the power of our external surroundings to shape our internal worlds (and vice versa), reckoning with time, mortality, and human nature. The songs here find strength in accepting what lies beyond our control, thoughtfully honing in on the bittersweet beauty that underlies our pain and sadness with vivid character studies and unflinching self-examination. Deep as the lyrics dig, the arrangements always manage to remain buoyant and light, though, drawing from across a broad sonic spectrum to create a transportive, effervescent blend that reflects the trio s unique place in the modern musical landscape.

Glass Beach's debut album the first Glass Beach album is the first album from Glass Beach. That's a good place to start, but the album's plain & descriptive title does little to explain exactly what goes on in the hour-long adventure contained therein. The first Glass Beach album was initially self-released by the band in Spring 2019, but it's roots date back to as early as 2015 - songwriter & band leader j McLendon started demoing songs for the album when they first moved to Los Angeles & spent three years polishing those first demos into these songs with bassist Jonas Newhouse & drummer William White. On their Bandcamp page, the band describes their sound as the accumulation of jazz, new wave, synth music, and emo distorted through the lens of punk. The songs that make up the first Glass Beach album are ambitious, theatrical and chaotic. Abandoning genre limitations makes Glass Beach's talent for songwriting all the more apparent - mathy guitar leads, catchy drum grooves and the constant interplay of horns, synths, and even the intermittent theremin set the perfect scene for j's stunning vocal performance, which can shift from a charming falsetto to the lead of a sing-a-long in an instant. Run For Cover will release the first Glass Beach album on vinyl for the first time in early 2020. This 2xLP set features all fifteen songs pressed on color vinyl with expanded artwork.

He’s a man Pitchfork calls “a pioneer” with a voice recognized by Rolling Stone Magazine as the sound of resilience. Now, Kirk Windstein, wielder of the sludge sledgehammer and unmistakable earthmoving bellow of Crowbar, stomps forward as a solo artist for the very first time. On a Dream In Motion, the inaugural effort from his eponymously monikered incarnation, the Dark Lord of the Southern Riff stretches his creative wings as he introduces new emotional depth and sonic texture that strengthen, rather than tarnish, the metal monolith’s career legacy and rightly revered catalog.
Though he invited in collaborators for this project, Parker is very much a solo artist on Suite for Max Brown. He constructs a digital bed of beats and samples; lays down tracks of his own on guitar, keyboards, bass, percussion, and occasionally voice; then invites musician friends to play and improvise over his melodies. But unlike a traditional jazz session, Parker doesn’t assemble a full band in the studio for a day or two of live takes. His accompanists are often working alone with Parker, reacting to what Parker has provided them, and then Parker uses those individual parts to layer and assemble into his final tracks. The process may be relatively solitary and cerebral, but the results feel like in-the-moment jams—warm-hearted, human, alive. Suite for Max Brown brims with personality, boasting the rhythmic flow of hip hop and the soulful swing of jazz.

The Comet is Coming follow up to their critically acclaimed "Trust in The Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery" with "The Afterlife" EP, their second title to be released under the Impulse Records! label. "The two records can be seen as companions, that cannot exist without each other, like day and night, light and dark, creation and destruction. They were made together, at the same time, and have always been intended to be experienced together". - Danalogue
The timeless qualities of traditional tunes can carry us across oceans and eons, linking us not only to the past but to each other as well. It was under the banner of those eternal connections that the trio of Bonny Light Horseman came together. From festival fields and a German art hub to a snowy upstate studio and everywhere in between, the astral folk outfit-comprised of Anaïs Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson (Fruit Bats, The Shins), and Josh Kaufman (The National, Bob Weir)-is mixing the ancient, mystical medium of transatlantic traditional folk music with a contemporary, collective brush. The resulting album, Bonny Light Horseman, is an elusive kind of sonic event: a bottled blend of lightning and synergy that will excite fans of multiple genres, eras, and ages. The album features fellow 37d03d artists-in-residence Michael Lewis (bass, saxophone) and JT Bates (drums) as well as Justin Vernon, Aaron Dessner, Kate Stables, Lisa Hannigan, The Staves, Christian Lee Hutson, and more. Leaving the 2018 37d03d Berlin event with roughly 60-percent of a record, the band reconvened at Dreamland Studios in Woodstock, NY, in January 2019 to finish, bringing Lewis and Bates as well as engineer Bella Blasko along with them.
Deen Castronovo (The Dead Daisies, ex-Journey), Doug Aldrich (ex-DIO, Whitesnake), and Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees) return with their third album, RISE. Inspiring, uplifting vocals, soaring melodies, and musicianship to die for is what you get in spades here.

Funny and sexy, dark and terrifying, "this is the OKLAHOMA! that was there all along" (New York Magazine).
The new comedy musical Tootsie, adapted from the 1982 film, began previews on Broadway March 29, following an acclaimed out-of-town tryout in Chicago last fall. Variety called Tony-winner David Yazbek's score "strikingly over-the-top: You know something's right when the music itself feels witty." Meanwhile, The Chicago Tribune commented, "The sound has a movie-score quality. many of his tempos are arrestingly up - so much so.that they keep amping the pleasures of the piece."

Limited edition white vinyl LP with download. A little more than a year ago we released a very special album from a new project called THE LAST DETAIL, a super group, formed by FUGU and A Girl Called Eddy. Or in other words, Mehdi Zannad and Erin Moran. Just over a year later, here we are releasing an album that many people didn't ever think would every come, the second A Girl Called Eddy album. While her debut came out in 2004 to much critical acclaim and was produced by Richard Hawley, it has been a while to say the least. But here is "Been Around" and yes, it was definitely worth the wait. Very much worth it. Throughout her career she has collaborated and provided vocals on projects as varied as Ron Sexsmith ("Exit Strategy Of The Soul"), SUPER FURRY ANIMALS, to French superstar Phillip Katerine's indie classic "Parlez Vous Anglais, Mr. Katerine?". Her debut album saw her out on tour supporting acts as diverse as Josh Ritter, Rufus Wainwright, THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH and THE CURE. And with that first record Moran has gathered a rather impressive list of fans: from Jane Birkin, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Tracey Thorn to Robert Smith, Don Henley, Jarvis Cocker and Burt Bacharach to name just a few."Been Around" has arrived looking like a classic. Referencing her hero's from Laura Nyro, and Van Morrison, to Steely Dan and PREFAB SPROUT, she has put together a collection of songs that still sound completely her own. They bring an essence of the past and real heart to the present. To a 21st century desperately in need of this kind of elegance, soul and inspiration, it is welcome indeed. Echo's of Karen Carpenter and even Jackie DeShannon can be felt in the lead track "Been Around", brimming with soulful horn sections and background vocalists, it is classic, high-flying soul-pop at it's best. "Big Mouth" reminds us of the pristine, fragile sounds she created with Richard Hawley on her debut, a dialogue of light and shade. Those dialogues are the stars of an album that consciously aims toward the light and to contrasts. "Jody" is a fine example of this. A goodbye to one of her best and oldest friends, it's a song that's bursting with life while grieving over death, all wrapped up in an evocative New York City narrative to boot. "Lucky Jack (20-1)", an ode to her philandering but lovable father and the unpredictability of being the child of an alcoholic."Charity Shop Window" a collaboration with one of Moran's hero's, the Oscar wining songwriter Paul Williams ("We've Only Just Begun", "The Rainbow Connection") is a song sounding like a cross between a Tom Waits, Burt Bacharach and THE BEACH BOYS tune all at once. Sublime. "Someone's Gonna Break Your Heart" as Moran admits is a direct homage to Queen Chrissie Hynde for all the inspiration she has brought to her. "Not That Sentimental Anymore" might be the most lyrical piece on the album. A point of reflection about the passing of time, growing older and disenchantment with life, with the gigantic lines: "Think I'm turning into stone... I've become the Berlin Wall". "Two Hearts", a blistering radio-ready pop song with a hint of ELO and brit-pop. "Come To The Palisades!" a teen-age reminiscing of New Jersey amusement parks, summers, beer and love... Moran's lyrics are at their best in songs like "Finest Actor" with "There could've been moments, but they were just scenes" and the Josh Rouse-like "NY Man".The arrangements on this album work on a different level to Morans debut. Where that album was steeped in dark melancholy, this record seems to bathe in the warm yellow Kodachrome-glow of the best of the 1970's. A looking back, but not pastiche. A sense of genuineness and heart permeates every track. This is an album so full of detail and wonder that we could go on and on.But we are here just to say that we feel this record can be listened to from so many angles, so many points of view. This is record for everyone. Produced with Grammy winning Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves), Erin and Daniel have created something truly special together. Tracked mainly in Nashville, the list of guest appearances reads like a who's-who of the best of music city: THE WATSON TWINS (Jenny Lewis), Victor Krauss, Jim Hoke and many others all make appearances."Been Around" is an enormous record. Made with love. Made the old-fashioned way. Perhaps that's where it's timelessness comes from. Is reaching this exceptional and rich level of composition and emotion justification for such a long silence from A Girl Called Eddy? Is that a question even worth asking? You haven't heard an album like this in fifteen years. She's back. Dig in and enjoy.
