The Ad Libs, a pheonominal-yet-underappreciated American vocal group hailing from Hudson County, NJ, had their first and only smash hit within their first year as a group, with 'The Boy From New York City.' Though several other singles from the doo-wop group landed on the Billboard R&B chart's, The Ad Libs never released a full album. Presenting The Ad Libs is the group's debut album that never happened. A collection of singles, b-sides, and unused studio cuts come together to show the 1960's soul singers in a whole new light. The tracks were remastered for vinyl at Infrasonic Mastering. The limited edition pressing comes on purple color vinyl.

Blue Cheer were the loudest, heaviest band of the 1960s. What they played and how they played it was labeled Heavy Metal – partly from a reference by the Beat writer William F. Burroughs and partly from a lyric in Steppenwolf’s Born To Be Wild (Heavy Metal Thunder . . .). It described them perfectly – and they ushered in a new age of searingly loud and upfront Rock which would quickly establish itself as the outer-fringe of Psychedelia. These three early demo tracks predate their debut album Vincebus Eruptum, and have more grind, guts, and grit than anything they've ever recorded! This one-sided EP on colored vinyl is the first ever vinyl release of this material.

Hot on the heels of Captured Tracks' reissue of Capital Punishment’s 1982 album Roadkill, the quartet of Kriss Roebling, Ben Stiller, Peter Zusi, and Peter Swann present This Is Capital Punishment – an EP of new material recorded almost 35 years after the group disbanded. Recorded at the Garden in Brooklyn, This Is Capital Punishment came about when Captured Tracks boss Mike Sniper asked Roebling for bonus material for the Roadkill reissue. The original members got back together and did a remake of their track "Confusion." A blistering take on the original, the new version reimagines “Confusion” as a much louder and sinister track. It was so loved by the label – and the band had so much fun recording it – that they decided to record new material. Capital Punishment burn through four other tracks that all explore the darker edges of rock ‘n’ roll. From the strangely sultry “Drumming Out Time Inside Me” and “Grey And Illuminate” to the band’s favorite “Hot Love,” Capital Punishment may not be teenage punks anymore, but they certainly haven’t lost their edge. Pressed on translucent blue vinyl, This Is Capital Punishment is limited to 1500 copies worldwide.

On January 1, 1976, Rolling Stone magazine called the debut album by West Virginian prog-rock pioneers Crack The Sky “…one of year’s most impressive debuts.” On August 21, 2018, Rolling Stone wrote “Crack the Sky: the Strange Survival Story of the Best U.S. Prog Band You’ve Never Heard.” They were named by Rolling Stone in their 2015 list of 50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums Of All Time and in their 20 Rock Albums Rolling Stone Loved in the 1970s That You Never Heard, the magazine’s very first review in 1976 went on to compare the band to Steely Dan, 10cc, The Tubes, Ian Hunter, and the inimitable Davie Bowie. Some 40 years later the band released their 20th album, Living in Reverse, 12 new genre-defying Crack tracks. The vinyl version is now being made available via Record Store Day Black Friday.

It’s no secret that The Smithereens grew up listening to The Beatles. They paid homage to the group’s landmark Capitol debut album by lovingly re-recording Meet The Beatles in its entirety. This time The Smithereens dug through their treasure of early Beatles singles and selected a dozen of Beatles B-sides. Originally released on vinyl in January of 2009 as a 2 disc set combined with Meet The Beatles, which has been out of print for five years. This marks the first vinyl stand-alone release for this part. For Beatle fans everywhere the final kick to this unique package is the orange and yellow swirl vinyl which was the original color combination for the label on the Capitol Records Beatles singles.

Soul Asylum first hit the Minneapolis music scene in early 1981. Core members Dave Pirner, Dan Murphy, and Karl Mueller met at local punk rock shows. Coming up in the shadow of formidable bands like Hüsker Dü and The Replacements, who they were all big fans of, was daunting but, ultimately, it inspired them to make a name for themselves. Soul Asylum stood out immediately because of their work ethic and smart, punky hard rock sound. They made four records for hometown label Twin/Tone Records, before moving on to the majors; first A&M, then Columbia where they scored two platinum albums and won a Best Rock Song Grammy® for “Runaway Train.” This special five-LP boxed set brings together Soul Asylum’s earliest albums (Say What You Will . . . Anything Can Happen, Made To Be Broken, and While You Were Out), their classic EP (Clam Dip & Other Delights), and the bonus track compilation and special new album (Twin/Tone Extras), a compilation that picks up select bonus tracks featured on the CD reissues of Soul Asylum’s Twin/Tone releases. The boxed set is co-produced by Twin/Tone Records cofounder and Replacements manager Peter Jesperson and Grammy®-winner and Omnivore Recordings co-founder Cheryl Pawelski. The Twin/Tone Years reaches back for some of the earliest Soul Asylum recordings as Loud Fast Rules and traces the history of the band through their indie, pre-major label years. A 20-page book is included with liner notes and previously unseen photos and memorabilia. The albums are being reissued on vinyl for the first time since their original releases, and have been restored and mastered by Grammy®-award winning engineer, Michael Graves at Osiris Studio and cut by Chris Muth at Taloowa. The Record Store Day Black Friday release includes a 20-page book with liner notes and previously unseen photos and memorabilia.

In its first era, Big Star's musical style drew on The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and The Byrds. They produced a style that foreshadowed the alternative rock of the 1980s and 1990s. Before it broke up, Big Star created a “seminal body of work that never stopped inspiring succeeding generations” in the words of Rolling Stone as the “quintessential American power pop band” and “one of the most mythic and influential cult acts in all of rock & roll”. During the group’s hiatus in the 1980s, the Big Star discography drew renewed attention when R.E.M. and the Replacements, as well as other popular bands, cited the group as an influence. Now for the first time ever on vinyl is this amazing tribute to Big Star. Featuring the likes of Afghan Whigs, Mathew Sweet, Juliana Hatfield, Whiskeytown and Wilco plus

Iconic purveyors of the lost and the strange, Something Weird Video, have partnered with Modern Harmonic to bring you 2 CDs of the greatest songs and soundbites from their voluminous catalog of filth and general grindhouse fodder. The all acoustic Goin' Way Back was recorded in a single afternoon in a Montreal rooming house during a 1967 Canadian tour. In between shows, Muddy and his band gathered in a living room, armed only with acoustic guitar, for a spirited walk through threir collective blues memory. An interesting side note is that legendary pianist Otis Spann is confined exclusively to guitar here, as are the other members of Muddy's group. Goin' Way Back is a unique, appealing snapshot of the acoustic Delta roots that the Chicago blues godfather never abandoned. This Record Store Day Black Friday release is part of the Justin Time Essentials Collection.

Würm was a sludge metal band started in 1973 by bass player Chuck Dukowski, who would later join Black Flag. Without Würm, the genres of punk rock and hardcore would never have been the same. The band's practice space, the Würmhole - a hangout for musicians in Hermosa Beach during the mid-late 70's - is where Keith Morris and Greg Ginn met Dukowski and ultimately formed the original Black Flag line-up. The band's only album, Feast, was released in 1985 after the band's demise. With the help of Chuck Dukowski, the long-out-of-print LP is being "exhumed" and reissued, along with a second LP featuring unreleased tracks, demos, and more. The package comes complete with retrospective liner notes from Dukowski himself, plus never-before-seen photos from the early days. The double LP release will come on a limited edition color vinyl presisng, exclusively for Record Store Day Black Friday.
