In 2017, Detroit’s Stef Chura released her debut album, Messes, to widespread acclaim. Stereogum wrote, "In Messes, you can hear the idea that DIY rock music can be as warm and friendly and melodic as any other kind of music.” Pitchfork called Stef’s lyrics "poetic and sharply rendered,” and said the album "falls just right, like a stretched-out sweater with holes in the collar.” Since Messes came out, Stef toured relentlessly, signed with Saddle Creek, and even found time to record some songs with Will Toledo of Car Seat Headrest fame. Those songs can be found on the Record Store Day exclusive 7” Degrees / Sour Honey, available April 21st at your favorite independent record store.

Team Dresch combined the likes of punk and metal with the then-radical ideologies of sexuality and female empowerment to earn their respected place among the queercore and riot grrrl movements. Nearly three decades after forming, the works of Team Dresch have never resonated louder as the relevance of such social concerns and opinions continues to enter modern day discussion. Remastered fresh pressing of long out-of-print debut 7'' from 1994, on clear vinyl.

This 7" release was recorded during the band's October 2015 USA Whistle Blower Tour, and features bass legend Mike Watt (Minutemen, fIREHOSE, The Stooges) and drummer Toby Dammit (The Stooges, Nick Cave).
Equal parts primal, early rock’n’roll, deviant hill country blues, and avant-garde art, Tav Falco's Panther Burns are ramshackle, raw, unholy & utterly amazing. The historico-musico revue originated in 1979 at the nadir of Memphis’ postmodern, post-Beale, post-Sun, post-Stax era, and boasts an impressive roster of past members including Alex Chilton of Big Star, Ben Cauley of the Bar-Kays, and Jim Duckworth of The Gun Club, among many others. In an equally impressive line-up for the latest recordings, Tav Falco teams up with legendary bassist Mike Watt and drummer Toby Dammit (The Stooges, Nick Cave). The songs were recorded during the group's 2015 USA Whistle Blower Tour, and will be released exlusively for Black Friday RSD on a 7". Tav Falco's Panther Burns will release a long-awaited full length album in 2017, supported by worldwide touring.

This Record Store Day release includes previously unreleased tracks, limited to 500 copies worldwide. Reality TV comes in many shapes and forms. Far from the wannabe hordes of American Idol and America's Got Talent, miles from the travails of the fame-hungry Kardashian clan, AMC's Small Town Security traced the fortunes (and misfortunes) of JJK Security, a family-owned firm in Ringgold, Georgia. Produced by the makers of This American Life, it aired after Breaking Bad in the summer of 2012 and won a small but loyal audience across two seasons. Though it had little in common with the TV singing competitions, Small Town Security showed that Ringgold has talent, too. Joan Koplan, matriarch and head of JJK, is an actress, singer, and public access TV host. In fact, she claims, her route to stardom was only cut short when she turned down Farah Fawcett's role in the camp 1970 movie, Myra Breckinridge. A cigar smoking, hard talking, wisecracking woman with smudged eyeliner and bright red lipstick, Koplan was an instant hit with fans of the show and an immediate subject of "why-we-love" listicles on the net. In the spirit of her finding well-deserved fame later in life, this special limited edition 7" single offers Koplan a shot at recognition for the songs she recorded as Tiger Joanie Scott, in the ‘60s – all of which remained unreleased until an old acetate was discovered in Koplan’s attic. Featuring a cover of The Four Tops' “Baby I Need Your Lovin’” on the A-side and “Kansas City”–which fans will remember from Small Town Security's pilot episode– on the flip, these unreleased tracks were recorded when Koplan–then a Scott–was just 14, even if her voice sounds more mature than her years. Whether you're missing the show and your weekly fix of Joan or whether you just love classic '60s pop, this special release for Record Store Day packs as much charm as Koplan herself.

Daniel and Danny Chavis are natives of Raleigh/Chapel Hill, North Carolina and East Village residents for the past 28 years. They are also co-founders of the groundbreaking band The Veldt, who lifted their band’s name from a Ray Bradbury science fiction story. Musically reared in the church and juke-joints of their native southern state, the twins have been performing since they were children, listening to music that included gospel, Motown and Pink Floyd.
Stuart A. Staples of Tindersticks wrote and produced the film score for the new Claire Denis film "High Life" starring Robert Pattinson (Twilight, Harry Potter). Pattinson sings the lead vocal on the song "Willow" from the film, backed by Tindersticks. This marks his first musical collaboration and release. The film is set for release in 2019, and Tindersticks are planning a full-length for later in the year, their last since the critically acclaimed 2016 album "The Waiting Room."

On the heels of announcing their new studio album, Myth of a Man, Night Beats are thrilled to follow with a Record Store Day Black Friday single of their first new single, "One Thing". A collaboration with producer Dan Auerbach, who worked closely with the Night Beats on their upcoming album. The exclusive B-side is "Watch The Throne", co-written by Night Beats, Dan Auerbach and Matt Shultz of Cage The Elephant.

Nothington's "Cobblestones" is the single from their first new album in five years, In The End. The song was originally premiered back in November of 2016 by the exquisite tastemakers at Vice/Noisey and it immediately reinvigorated their faithful fans. 2017 is an exciting year for these SF punk heroes, and this limited 7" adds to their comeback campaign, with an added exclusive B-side acoustic version of "The Last Time."
"Cobblestones"/"The Last Time (Acoustic)"
Amazing master tape discovery of a misplaced 1973 Jean-Claude Vannier single, including previously unheard instrumentation and alternative arrangements from the first days of the sessions for his album L'Enfant Assasin des Mouches, recorded a few months after Vannier's seminal work on Serge Gainsbourg’s Histoire de Melody Nelson (1971). Authentic 1970s promo artwork. Limited edition of 2000.

A single produced by the highly-revered Saravah label at the time, featuring the Art Ensemble of Chicago backing the poetry of the little-remembered Alfred Panou, is not as well-known as the label's other releases. Seen in the 1967 film Weekend by Jean-Luc Godard, Alfred Panou, who is of mixed Benin-Togolese origin, already had a career as an actor in political theater when, pushed by producer Pierre Barouh, he recorded two of his texts concerning Black Power. Panou's prose is one of the first, in its own way, to question the notion of black identity. The rowdy poly-instrumental jungle fantasy of the Art Ensemble of Chicago creates a musical counterpoint. First ever vinyl reissue; Color vinyl; Worldwide edition of 2000.

Jimbo Mathus & Andrew Bird will be teaming up for a new release called "These 13" on 3/5. It is a little bit folk, a little bit gospel, a little bit bluesy, a little bit Hank, a little bit hill country, but most emphatically, it is all heart. Andrew Bird and Jimbo Mathus have climbed the height of their creative ladders in this collection of soul-strung songs, both lyrically and musically, a synchronicity between the two that feels joined in some special imaginative place that can only be visited by the best of songwriters. All songs written and performed by Andrew Bird + Jimbo Mathus. Album was produced by Mike Viola
