Translated to "madness shared by two" we’re not exactly sure what the Illinois emo quartet is getting at. A self-effacing dig at bassist Pete Wentz’s celebromance with Ashlee Simpson? A McCain/Palin burn? (This thing was coming out on Election Day, after all, before getting pushed to mid-December.) Whatever the case, expect further diversification on FOB’s fourth full-length. Vocalist Patrick Stump regarded 2007’s Infinity on High as possibly his last chance to make a truly weird and ornate major label album, but a series of successful singles have enabled FOB to branch out even further. Wentz calls new effort "I Don’t Care" a hedonist’s anthem, and has hinted at an underlying thread connecting these songs (although nothing as dorky as My Chemical Romance or Coheed and Cambria). It must feel good to call their own shots; the boys have certainly survived waves of detractors. Who knows—maybe someday soon they’ll even be able to play their instruments competently live!
