More Info:

Ben Wakeman has spent the better part of the last 10 years in the fertile acoustic music scene of Atlanta, Georgia where he has honed his skills as a songwriter. In the company of some of the country's finest writers including Shawn Mullins, Kristen Hall, Matthew Kahler and Kristian Bush of Billy Pilgrim, Ben as matured into his own distinct sound that nods to his many diverse influences, but also stands alone in it's depth and genuine delivery. 'The Overall Distance' is the culmination of Wakeman's many years of searching for his true voice -- the passion and confidence that he sings about in the track 'Resonate.' The collection of songs on the recording reveal the subtle yet complicated terrain of everyday life; of love and family, of self-doubt and loss, and finally of hope. There is nothing cynical or contrived about Wakeman's approach and he delivers the songs on this recording with the genuine openness that you would expect from an old friend. His impeccable guitar playing and warm voice compliment each other in the easy way of two people who have spent the better part of their lives together. The record is artfully produced by Ric Hordinski who is the former guitar player for Over the Rhine and a seasoned producer who has worked on many projects, most notably David Wilcox's 'Turning Point.' Hordinski lends his amazing guitar talents to the record, creating lush landscapes supported by the brilliant bass playing of David LaBruyere and the rock-solid drumming of Over the Rhine's Brian Kelly. Additionally, Shawn Mullins and Kristian Bush make guest vocal appearances on several tracks. Wakeman is an undiscovered talent and should not be overlooked. There will always be room in the world for songs like these.
