Recorded in Topanga Canyon in the Santa Monica mountains. Neil Young lived there while recording "After The Gold Rush" and the area has also been home to Emmylou Harris, Taj Mahal, Joni Mitchell, Mick Fleetwood, and members of The Doors.

Like many freak-folkers, Banhart is best-known to the mainstream for his beard. Unlike Peter from Family Guy, he doesn't house baby birds within it. We think. His plaintively strummed, vaguely psychedelic passages made Cripple Crow a surprise hit a few years ago, and he's been surprisingly prolific since first appearing in 2002, achieving his highest charting album via 2005's split with hushed Houstonite contemporary Jana Hunter.
