Reviews:
''Other People's Songs'' is a cover album by Erasure.
The album was originally conceived as a solo project for singer Andy Bell. Once Vince Clarke, the other member of Erasure, became involved, it was released as Erasure's tenth studio album. The tracks were handpicked by Clarke and Bell as ones that influenced them as musicians. It was released in the UK and the U.S. by Mute Records in 2003.
''Other People's Songs'' gave Erasure their first top ten on the UK singles chart in nine years. The album was produced by Erasure with Gareth Jones and Dave Bascombe. Because of Bell's resistance to remaking the classic "Video Killed the Radio Star", the verses are "sung" synthetically by a computer. - Wikipedia
Only those who haven't figured out the Village People yet would wonderwhy a group like Erasure would embrace camp from time to time. For this project, they've pitched their tents and high heels deep in the sinking soils ofCamp Run-4-Cover, paying their own peculiar brand of respect to songs by PeterGabriel, Buddy Holly and Elvis, amongst many others. Some of these covers actuallywork, such as the Roxy Music-al take on Steve Harley's "Make Me Smile(Come Up and See Me)" and the faithful and timely revisitation of the Buggles'"Video Killed the Radio Star." But the real use of this CD will beten or twenty years from now, where you'll be able to place Andy Bell'sversions of "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" and "EbbTide" next to William Shatner's "Mr. Tambourine Man" andMrs. Miller's "Downtown" and impress your buddies with your connoisseur'staste in laughably bad judgment. Right now, we're too close to tell.
